Founded in 1957 by Giuseppe Cencioni, Capanna farm is known as one of the first producers of Brunello di Montalcino in the modern era.

The first bottles labelled “Capanne” of this imported variety of wine, in fact, date back to the 1960s and its name can be read on the list of founding producers of the Consorzio del Vino Brunello di Montalcino in 1966.

With the recognition of the controlled denomination of origin (DOC), the company’s production also increased, increasing the number of hectares under vine and beginning to export its “Capanne 1970” abroad, as far as Canada and Japan.

Today, the Capanna farm is run by the fourth generation, which, today as then, seeks to improve its products more and more and operates in full respect of nature.

The Capanna farm is located on the northern side of Montalcino, in the Montosoli area, but its vineyards face south-east and take advantage of  the excellent climate that characterises the area that looks towards Grosseto.

The hectares of vines are planted with a bilateral spurred cordon system and are subjected to completely organic working techniques such as grassing, green manure and thinning of the bunches before harvesting, so as to allow the grapes to ripen perfectly, to enjoy the right ventilation and lighting and the soil to be flourishing and rich.

The varieties grown include: Sangiovese, Moscato bianco, Merlot and Pinot Grigio.

The grapes are harvested by hand and each stage of the wine-making process is carried out with respect for its time and nature. In the cellar, the traditional oak vats dedicated to the fermentation of the best Sangiovese grapes meet state-of-the-art technologies such as the thermo-conditioning system that allows temperature control and pumping over.

Refinement and bottling take place in the cellar which, to ensure the correct ageing and conservation of each bottle, has a temperature and humidity level that are always controlled, constant and optimal.

The production includes: Brunello di Montalcino (vintage or reserve), Moscadello di Montalcino, Grappa di Brunello, Rosso di Montalcino and Extra Virgin Olive Oil.
