Castello Romitorio was founded in 1984, although its link with viticulture dates back to almost a thousand years. Archaeological finds reveal traces of honey and wine cultivation as far back as Roman times, while Brunello made its first appearance at Castello Romitorio in the 16th century.

Today, the estate is run by the Chia family, who has contributed to the rebirth of the historic building, transforming it into a place where tradition and innovation blend perfectly to create unique, quality products.

The Castello Romitorio estate covers 190 hectares on the north-west side of Montalcino and includes woods, vines and olive groves. The vineyards cover fifteen hectares and are cared for in every detail with a deep respect for the environment.  They are surrounded by uncontaminated environments made up of small lakes and virgin woods that allow the creation of fresh and fruity wines.

Also part of Castello Romitorio is “Ghiaccio Forte”, an estate in the nearby territory of Scansano, where Sangiovese is grown.

Every manifacturing and production process is characterised by a deep selection, carried out in the vineyard, through thinning, sorting and frequent controls, and in the cellar. Here, in the place that perfectly embodies the company’s philosophy, the wines are aged according to a delicate balance between large wooden barrels and French oak. The result is a pure, quality product that manages to express all the goodness of its terroir.

Castello Romitorio’s excellent wines include: Brunello di Montalcino (vintage, in the “Filo di Seta” and Riserva versions), Chianti Colli Senesi DOCG, Morellino di Scansano Ghiacciatoforte, “Romito”, “RomiToro”, Rosè and Rosso di Montalcino.
