Voliero

Voliero is a project linked to the Uccelliera winery, located in Castelnuovo dell'Abate, in the southeastern part of Montalcino. The Voliero project's grapes, however, come from a different vineyard, in the Canalicchio area in the northern part of Montalcino: two distinct terroirs that are vinified and bottled separately, though they share the same winemaker.

The project comes from Andrea Cortonesi, owner of the Uccelliera winery since 1986. As a restaurateur searching for the best local products for his menu, a friend offered him grapes from his own vineyard in the Canalicchio cru to make a wine dedicated to the restaurant: that is how Voliero was born, joining Uccelliera as Cortonesi's second project, though with a separate identity and vinification.

Voliero produces a Brunello di Montalcino DOCG from the Canalicchio cru, in the northern part of Montalcino — a different terroir from Uccelliera's in Castelnuovo dell'Abate, resulting in a distinct profile while remaining under the guidance of the same winemaker, Andrea Cortonesi.
