Ferrero
Arrived in Montalcino at the beginning of the 80’s, Pablo from Switzerland and Claudia from Piedmont, we met working both for a large estate in Montalcino.
One thing leads to another. First of all to our 3 daughters: Silvia, Giulia and Pepita.
In the same time we had the opportunity to buy our house Pascena and Claudia could start her job.
In 2002 we built the winery, restoring the old stable, barn and shed attached to the house. In 2009 Pablo stopped working as an employed winemaker, choosing to dedicate his time to this family business, apart from consulting to a few estates.
Today the estate is farming roughly 14 acres of vineyard: 7,5 in Montalcino and slightly more than 6 in Montenero d’Orcia, a few miles from Montalcino but already in the Maremma Toscana.
In addition to the wines we obviously produce also Extra Virgin Olive Oil and a few bottles of Grappa.
Frequently Asked Questions
Where is the Ferrero winery located and in what part of Montalcino does it produce?
Ferrero is based at the old Pascena farmstead, an early-1900s farmhouse restored by the family. Its 5.5 hectares under vine are split between 3 hectares at the foot of Sant'Angelo in Colle, source of the Rosso and Brunello di Montalcino, and 2.5 hectares in Montenero d'Orcia, yielding a Toscana Rosso IGT.
Who founded the Ferrero winery? Is it a family business?
Yes: the winery was founded in the late 1990s out of Pablo and Claudia's passion for the vine and wine, carried forward today by their three daughters. Management is entirely family-run, with each vine tended in detail, from fertilization to pre-harvest thinning.
