Castello di Ama

The “Castello di Ama” estate takes its name from the place where it stands, a small village in the Tuscan hills dating back to the Holy Roman Empire (although what we find today is a reconstruction, made with the same stones as in the past, because the original was destroyed during the Aragonese invasions).

Wine production and the rebirth of Ama came about thanks to four entrepreneurs, led by GianVittorio Cavanna, who replanted the vineyards and equipped the Castle with the innovative cellar where fermentation still takes place today. Today, the company is run by the second generation of the family, who continue to carry on the work of 40 years with passion, dedication and innovation.

The vineyards of Castello di Ama extend over 75 hectares between Bellavista, San Lorenzo, La Casuccia and Montebuoni, places to which they also owe their names. San Lorenzo is the oldest vineyard (dating back to 1972) and is the place where the Sangiovese that will later give life to the “Gran Selezione” Cru is produced; Bellavista and L’Apparita date back to 1977 and produce excellent wines such as the “Gran Selezione Chianti Classico” and the “L’Apparita” Cru; La Casuccia and Montebuoni are the most recent, but not of lesser quality (it is precisely at La Casuccia that the grapes that will later give life to the “Gran Selezione Chianti Classico” are cultivated).

Among the excellent wines produced by the Castello di Ama winery are “Bellavista Chianti Classico Gran Selezione”, “Castello di Ama Chianti Classico”, “Chianti Classico San Lorenzo”, “La Casuccia Chianti Classico Gran Selezione” and “L’Apparita”.
