Frequently Asked Questions

Where is the Travaglini winery located and in which appellation does it produce?

Travaglini is located in Gattinara, in Piedmont, with 62 hectares owned, of which 55 are under vine: more than half of the entire Gattinara DOCG appellation, made from Nebbiolo grapes, locally called Spanna.

Who founded the Travaglini winery? Is it a family business?

Yes: the winery's history begins in the 1920s with Clemente Travaglini, who vinified grapes from his own vineyards in a cellar in the center of Gattinara, carried on by his son Arturo until the 1950s. In 1958 Giancarlo Travaglini inherited the winery, thoroughly modernizing its growing methods and product quality: today the winery is in its fifth family generation.

Why is the Travaglini bottle so recognizable?

In 1958 Giancarlo Travaglini designed and patented the distinctive curved bottle, known as the 'bottiglia storta' (crooked bottle), designed to fit naturally in the palm of the hand and to retain sediment during decanting, becoming an immediately recognizable hallmark of the winery.

Have Travaglini wines received major awards?

Yes: the Gattinara Riserva DOCG 2019 scored 98 points and 5 stars from James Suckling, one of the most recent in a long series of awards the winery has received since its earliest participation in national and international fairs.
