Palazzone

Palazzone is located in Rocca Ripesena, near Orvieto, in Umbria, with views of the Orvieto cliff. Its 25 hectares of vineyard sit on sedimentary, clay soils, the basis for producing Orvieto Classico and Superiore DOC, the winery's main appellation.

The estate, home to a building constructed in 1299 by Cardinal Teodorico as a hospice for pilgrims of the first Jubilee, was bought by the Dubini family in the late 1960s. From the 1980s Giovanni and Lodovico Dubini began the first vinifications, leading to the construction of the current cellar in 1988 by Giovanni Dubini.

Besides Orvieto Classico and Superiore, since 1995 the winery has produced 'Muffa Nobile', a botrytized wine made from Sauvignon and Sémillon, the same classic varieties used in French Sauternes, introduced by Giovanni Dubini in a territory historically tied to white wine.
