La Colombina was born as a company in 1997 for the need to enhance the property that the family had owned for generations in various points of the Castelnuovo dell’Abate area. Lands that, up to that period had been cultivated with the traditional system of our territory (olive trees, vines and small spaces for grazing). The choice of land, the exposure and orientation of the rows, the selection of clones and the form of farming have been taken care of in every detail by those who, with experience, are linked to the world of voticulture in Montalcino. The start of the new business created the need for a cellar set up with new technologies such as to confirm the high quality of the product.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where is the La Colombina winery located and in what part of Montalcino does it produce?

La Colombina is located in the Castelnuovo dell'Abate area, a small hamlet near Montalcino, with vineyards spread across several points in the area at altitudes between 200 and 400 meters, on soil made of debris with a deep active layer and south/southeast exposure.

Who founded the La Colombina winery? Is it a family business?

Yes: the Caselli family has owned the vineyards for generations, but for years chose to sell the grapes rather than make their own wine. Only in the mid-1990s did Anna Maria and Alamiro decide to bottle their own Brunello, with the first vintage produced in 1997. The 3-hectare property is entirely registered for Brunello di Montalcino DOCG.

What wine does the La Colombina winery produce?

The winery produces exclusively Brunello di Montalcino, with extended aging of 30-40 months between large traditional casks and French oak barriques. Production is very limited, about 1,200 cases a year, consistent with the property's small size.
