Giuseppe Mascarello

Giuseppe Mascarello is based in Monchiero, but its most celebrated vineyard, Monprivato, is located in Castiglione Falletto, in the Langhe. It is a 7-hectare cru, with six hectares on the best southwest-facing hillsides, at 280 meters of altitude, on clay-marl soil rich in active limestone.

Yes: its origins go back to the mid-19th century, when Giuseppe Mascarello managed other owners' vineyards before buying his own vineyard and cellar in Monforte d'Alba in 1881. The Monprivato vineyard was bought in 1904 by Maurizio 'Morissio' Mascarello, while since 1967 Mauro Mascarello has refined the winery's style, introducing the first bottling of Monprivato as a single-vineyard wine starting in 1970.
