Canalicchio di Sopra winery was founded on the north-eastern slopes of Montalcino in 1962 by Primo Pacenti and is the story of three generations united by a strong bond with the land of Montalcino and its products.

Started more than 50 years ago as one of the main producers of Brunello di Montalcino (the first bottle is dated 1966) and included among the 12 companies to which we owe the birth of the Consorzio del Vino Brunello di Montalcino in 1967, Canalicchio di Sopra is still today one of the main protagonists of the Tuscan territory, as confirmed by the numerous awards obtained by its wines.

At the basis of its success there is undoubtedly the search for elegance, the deep respect for the territory and the perfect balance between innovation and tradition on which the company’s philosophy is still based today, three generations later.

The vineyards of the Canalicchio di Sopra estate extend for 19 hectares and are cultivated exclusively with Sangiovese grosso. The soils on which they grow are very different from each other, have different exposures and climates, and allow specific peculiarities of the same wine to be enhanced in order to create always original aromas.

The vineyards of Canalicchio di sopra are located within the CRU Canalicchio (this is the case of the vines cantina, cerrino, bersaglio, suga, vecchia mercatale and casaccia) and the CRU Montosoli (vineyard Del Poggio, long rows, del piano and di mezzo).

The winery is located in Loc. Casaccia since 1995 and is the place where tradition and innovation meet in perfect balance.

The individual processes and the vinification are carried out in full respect of the environment by selecting each grape by hand; fermentation takes place in steel tanks at a controlled temperature and, to guarantee the maximum elegance and personality of each wine, daily pumping over is carried out to allow the wine to obtain greater clarity.

Refinement takes place in Slavonian oak barrels for a period that varies according to the type of wine produced.

The production includes: Brunello di Montalcino (vintage, Riserva or in the “La Casaccia” version) and Rosso di Montalcino.
