San Guglielmo is located in Montalcino, with vineyards planted on five hectares acquired by the family in the 1990s, in the heart of the Brunello di Montalcino appellation, a territory ideal for growing Sangiovese, the only variety used by the winery.
Who founded the San Guglielmo winery? Is it a family business?
Yes: it all started with grandfather Guglielmo, one of the 25 founding members of the Consorzio del Brunello di Montalcino in 1967. In the 1990s his son Mario bought five hectares of land to reconnect with his family's roots, and in 2002 his granddaughter Ilaria, together with her father, planted the first Sangiovese cuttings, giving rise to the winery as it exists today.
What wines does San Guglielmo produce? Since when has it had its own label?
Until its first own-label vintage, 2016, the winery's grapes were sold to other Montalcino wineries. Since then Ilaria Martini, together with her husband Mike, has produced Brunello di Montalcino DOCG and Rosso di Montalcino DOC, both made from pure Sangiovese.
