Castello di Pomino is one of the eight estates founded by the Frescobaldi family in Tuscany, taking its name from the town of the same name where it stands.

Now famous for its wine, the Castello di Pomino estate was built in the 1500s and, hidden in the Florentine mountains, has always represented an elegant and feminine place. Among the successes achieved by the wines produced in Pomino are those of 1716, when Cosimo III de’Medici, Grand Duke of Tuscany, named the small village as one of the four places in the region where wines of excellent quality are produced; 1873, when it and its wines were awarded prizes at the Vienna World’s Fair; and 1878, when Pomino wines received first prize at the Paris Expo.

Castello Pomino’s vineyards were among the first in all of Tuscany to see the cultivation of international grape varieties such as cabernet sauvignon, merlot, pinot noir and chardonnay, and it was here that, for the first time, the ‘specialised vineyard’ was introduced and it was realised that gravity could be exploited for a natural decanting from barrels, allowing the original characteristics of the wine to be maintained.

Among the excellent wines of this winery are the “Castello di Pomino Benefizio” (vintage or Riserva) and the “Pomino Bianco”.
