Altesino
Altesino winery stands in the eastern hills northeast of Montalcino and takes its name from Palazzo Altesi, the ancient building that dominates the estate, built in the mid-fifteenth century by the noble Tuscan Tricerchi family.
Founded over forty years ago by a far-sighted entrepreneur from Milan, since 2002 the winery has been owned by the Gnudi Angelini family who, with the collaboration of Paolo Caciorgna for technical and production sectors, manage every crop with enthusiasm, passion and skill.
Innovation, care and quality are the keywords that have been distinguishing Altesino since 1975, year in which introduced important innovations were introduced, such as the concept of cru with which Brunello di Montalcino Montosoli is produced, or the first experiments in barriques with Gioacchino Nannoni, which led to the creation of the first grappa on the farm.
Vinification, refinement and bottling take place mostly in modern and functional structures, built according to the principles of sustainable architecture, taking advantage of the natural slope behind the vineyards. Brunello Montosoli, on the other hand, remains the only wine to be aged in the old cellar located in the 15th-century Palazzo Altesi.
The Altesino vineyards extend for 50 hectares and are located in six different fields (Altesino, Macina, Cerbaia, Montosoli, Pianezzine and Velona), each with different soils, altitudes and exposures, so as to guarantee the high quality standard of each production, regardless of the season.
Sangiovese is the most produced, but Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Malvasia, Vermentino, Trebbiano, Chardonnay and Viognier are also cultivated, and are used to produce Brunello, Rosso di Montalcino, Palazzo Altesi, Alte dìAltesi, Rosso si Altesino, Vin Santo and Bianco di Altesino.
