Emidio Pepe
Cantina Emidio Pepe was founded in 1964 in the province of Teramo and is the story of the love for one’s own land and its products, handed down from generation to generation.
It all began in 1899, when Emidio joined his grandfather and father in the production of wine in his own home. Today, 50 years later, the Emidio Pepe winery is one of the most representative of Abruzzo wines and is run by his daughters Sofia and Daniela and his young granddaughters, followed by the proud gaze of Emidio and Rosa.
The company philosophy has remained unchanged and, just as in the beginning, is based on a biodynamic and organic footprint and on meticulous control of all agricultural practices and cellar activities, reducing interventions in the vineyard to a minimum and eliminating the use of chemical fertilisers and herbicides.
The vineyards extend for fifteen hectares in the Torano Nuovo area, an almost unspoiled place characterised by sea breezes blowing from the Adriatic sea towards the hinterland, cold currents coming from the Gran Sasso peaks and a soil rich in clay and minerals.
Each phase of the grape processing is carried out according to the traditional method, in full respect of the environment. Harvesting is manual, pressing is carried out with the feet in wooden vats, while fermentation takes place spontaneously in cement tanks. In order to maintain the identity of the wine unaltered, no filtration is carried out before bottling and the wine is aged in glass bottles and left to decant naturally.
Among the excellent wines from the Emidio Pepe Winery are: Pecorino IGT, Montepulciano d’Abruzzo and Trebbiano d’Abruzzo.
